Diagnostic Solutions Lab provides innovative DNA-based diagnostic testing to support personalized healthcare. When they implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, two critical processes still relied heavily on custom development and manual intervention: pricing and data synchronization.
What started as a search for a better way to manage pricing and synchronization ultimately became a long-term solution that continues to save time, improve accuracy, and reduce operational overhead.
“It’s one of those raging success stories”
Tom Bertolino , Director of IT at Diagnostic Solutions Lab

The challenge: critical processes, too much manual effort
For Tom Bertolino, Director of IT, building an internal solution was never the issue. He had already developed parts of the functionality himself using .NET and SQL. The challenge was ensuring that these business-critical processes remained reliable, scalable and easy to maintain as the organization continued to grow.
Diagnostic Solutions Lab relies on a laboratory information management system as the system of record for customer, contact, and order data. That information needs to flow into Business Central, where financial and operational processes are managed. Before Dynavision, much of that synchronization depended on custom development, config packs, and manual intervention.
Pricing presented a similar challenge. Diagnostic Solutions Lab uses a rate structure with multiple fallback levels: if the correct rate is not found at customer level, the system needs to continue through the hierarchy until the right price is identified. Tom had built logic to support this process, but maintaining it required specialist knowledge and time.
“We didn’t have rating capabilities other than what I had coded myself, which was clunky at best. And on the sync side, we had nothing automated.”

The existing setup worked, but it was not where Tom wanted the business to be. It lacked the familiar Business Central user experience, was difficult to delegate, and left too much responsibility with one person.
Why Dynavision
The search for a solution started with a recommendation from an independent Dynamics advisor, who provided a shortlist of potential vendors. After evaluating several options, Tom discovered Dynavision online and was impressed by the responsiveness of the team, the practical fit of the applications, and the competitive pricing.
Cost mattered, but it was not the only factor. Tom wanted a solution that would reduce custom maintenance, fit naturally into Business Central, and give his team confidence that the processes could be managed beyond IT.
“I could have continued building it myself. But I’m a Director of IT. I’ve got a lot on my plate.”

The solution: standard where possible, automated where it matters
Dynavision implemented two applications, with the rollout deliberately staggered to keep the project manageable: Advanced Pricing & Discounts first, followed by Advanced Sync.
Advanced Pricing & Discounts
Advanced Pricing & Discounts was used as a plug-and-play solution for Diagnostic Solutions Lab’s pricing needs. It enabled the organization to manage its pricing structure directly within Business Central, eliminating the need to rely on custom-developed pricing logic outside the standard user experience.
Because the app follows familiar Business Central design principles, the solution felt intuitive for users and easier to maintain. What previously depended heavily on Tom’s own custom logic could now be handled in a structured, transparent way inside Business Central.
Advanced Sync
Advanced Sync automated the flow of data from the LIMS platform into Business Central. Customer and contact data are synchronized every 15 minutes, while sales orders are synchronized every hour.
The integration replaced manual update processes and improved the timeliness of information available to the accounts receivable team. Instead of pushing updates manually or troubleshooting stale records, the team can rely on a scheduled synchronization process running in the background.

Why the project succeeded
Like many integration projects, this implementation presented a few challenges along the way. Tom is clear, however, that the main constraints came from Diagnostic Solutions Lab’s existing LIMS environment, not from the Dynavision applications themselves.
That difference mattered. Whenever obstacles appeared, both teams worked together to find practical alternatives and workarounds. Tom describes the Dynavision team as professional, patient, persistent, and highly capable.
“We complemented each other quite well. We had the business knowledge, and Dynavision helped us work through the technical hurdles.”

The collaboration also had a human side. The project team kept the conversations constructive and enjoyable, even when the technical details were complex. That combination of product knowledge, responsiveness, and mutual commitment helped turn a challenging implementation into a successful one.
The results: time saved, confidence gained
The impact was immediate and measurable. Tom estimates that Diagnostic Solutions Lab recovered more than five hours per week that were previously spent maintaining pricing logic and supporting related processes. He describes the return on investment as very strong.
Equally important was the improvement in reliability. Pricing accuracy is now exceptionally strong, and the rare issues that occur are linked to upstream data rather than the pricing engine itself.
For synchronization, success is measured by what no longer happens. The accounts receivable team used to flag customer or order information that had not updated correctly. Since implementing Advanced Sync, those complaints have largely disappeared.
“We don’t hear anything anymore, which is actually good news. People used to tell us something wasn’t updating. The sync solved that.”

The pricing process has also become easier to delegate. What was once managed almost entirely by IT is now increasingly handled by an analyst, with the wider pricing team expected to take on more responsibility over time. For Tom, that is a meaningful sign that the solution is not only working, but sustainable.
Looking ahead
Diagnostic Solutions Lab is already looking at the next phase of its Business Central journey. As the organization replaces its legacy LIMS platform, there may be opportunities to further expand order synchronization and improve the flow of operational data.
For now, the foundation is in place: pricing is managed inside Business Central, core data is synchronized automatically, and IT has more time to focus on new business priorities.
The verdict
When asked whether he would recommend Dynavision to other organizations, Tom does not hesitate.
“Highly. I wouldn’t even consider replacing it. It works, and it works exceptionally well.”

Today, Advanced Pricing & Discounts and Advanced Sync play an important role in the daily operations of Diagnostic Solutions Lab. What once relied on custom code, manual intervention, and specialist knowledge now operates through standard Business Central functionality and automated processes.
